In the name of God Amen I William Spendliffe Born in Shottle in the County of Derbyshire Private Marine belonging to His Majesty,s Ship Russell being of sound and disposing Mind and Memory make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say ffirst and principally I ------- my Soul to God ----- ------ ------ -------- and my Body to the Earth or Water as the Lord shall so order it and as for and concerning my worldly Estate and Effects I give and bequeath the same as followethe .I give and bequeath unto my beloved Sister Anne Spendliffe of Shottle in the said County of Derbyshire all my pay or wages or prize Money -------- Money -------- or Allowance Money that now is or ------- after may be due to me from His Majesty,s Ship Russell or any other Ship or before whatsoever.I also give and bequeath unto my loving Messmates William Cheeseman ,Joseph -otton ,James Bird and Robert Walshe All my Cloathes wearing Apparrel Bed and Bedding and all other property that may be found at my decease and I hereby revoke and make void All former Wills by me heretofore made and i make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twelfeday of November in the year of our Lord God One thousand eight hundred and five.William Spendliffe his Mark Witness to the above Will and Testament Anthony Horan,William Cheeseman.

On the Twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight Hundred and eight Administration with the Will annexed of the Goods,Chattels and ------ of William Spendliffe late a marine belonging to His Majesty,s Ship Russell deceased was granted to Anne Spendliffe Spinster? the Sister of the deceased and Legatee named in the said Will ------ so far as -------- all pay or wages prize money -------- money or ------Allowance Money and all other Sum or Sums of Money due to or now due to the said deceased from His Majesty,s Ship Russell or any ship before whatsoever -----us-----or-----but--------been first sworn by -------duly to administer.
 
 

H.M.S Russell was built 1764 at Well,s Yard Blackwall She was on the East Indies Station ,classed as a third rate ship in 1805 had 64 guns ,two decks and a compliment of 500 to 650 men .Her Captain in 1805 was a Robert Williams ,he was replaced by Captain J.Caulfield in 1807 .It is not known at present the cause of death of William .
